On a recent trip to the Great Lakes I had an opportunity to visit the gravesites of no less than 70 blues musicians. Naturally, many are located in the Chicago-land area but a number were in and around Detroit, and cities in between. You’ll find photos and locations on the updated Blues Gravesites page. Artists include:

Snooky Pryor, Dr. Ross, Luther Huff, Sippie Wallace, Big Maceo, Son House, the Butler Twins, John Brim, Son Seals, Luther Allison, Koko Taylor, Hubert Sumlin, Washboard Sam, Little Walter, Carey Bell, Al Ammons, Big Bill Broonzy, Jimmy Reed, Cryin’ Sam Collins, Otis Spann, Lovie Lee, Kokomo Arnold, Willie Dixon, Luther Tucker, Magic Sam, Hound Dog Taylor, Johnny Jones, Jimmy Rogers, Earl Hooker, Shakey Horton, Muddy Waters, J.B. Hutto, Mighty Joe Young, Howlin’ Wolf, Junior Wells, Little Brother Montgomery, Georgia Tom Dorsey and Johnnie Young.

I was unable to visit every artist laid to rest in the area, so hopefully another trip to Chicago will be on tap again soon.

Also, a little earlier this summer, I visited the graves of R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough, both located near their homes in northern Mississippi just an hour from Memphis. They’re also new additions to the list. Enjoy!
